From my one man shop in South Newfane Vermont, I design and build contemporary solid hardwood furniture. Inspiration for my pieces is rooted in (but not bound by) the clean grace of Japanese and Shaker aesthetics. The interplay between the refined and unrefined or "natural" line is of particular interest to me and I feature it in much of my work. I employ traditional joinery techniques, and take great care in wood selection. The result is furniture exhibiting an inner harmony that will stand the test of time.

When choosing materials I prefer to use domestic (ideally local) wood.  I personally go to the supplier or local mill and hand select for the best/most interesting wood.  Sometimes this can mean strapping a chainsaw to my backpack to harvest a beautiful piece of spalted maple from a "blow down" up on the hill, or taking a hike with machete in hand to collect the branches used in my work.

I use finishes that highlight the natural warmth and beauty of wood, typically hand rubbed oils, or shellac.  Lately milk paint colors have been finding their way into some of my pieces.
